HW for 10/28 (due next week)

Write the first draft of your position paper

Write it on a separate piece of paper, preferably typed on an A4 sheet

This is due on 11/4

For your position paper, you should break it up into 3 paragraphs

Paragraph 1 - The Background
* What is the issue? * What are its causes? *Where and when is this a problem *Why is it a serious issue?

Paragraph 2 - Prior Development
* What was done about this problem before? *What is being done about it now? *Who are the key players involved in this issue (governments, NGOs, UN departments, etc)

Paragraph 3 - Your suggestions for solutions
*What can be done about this issue from a worldwide perspective?
*What are your ideas for solutions to the various aspects of this issue?

Next Week's HW

Each group will make a short presentation about your issue.

You should tell us:
What is the issue? (describe it)
Why is this a big problem?
What is the historical background of the issue?
Where does the problem come from?
What was done about the problem in the past?
How are people trying to solve the problem right now? (governments, NGOs, UN)
Where is this issue the most serious?
What else can be done?

Each group should talk for 3-4 minutes about their issue

This week's homework (10/7)

1) Finish up last week's HW (discussion of your country)

2) Begin researching your main issue. Begin with news and current events. Write about it in your journal. Read 2-3 articles about your issue and summarize the issue in your journal.
